Changing My Hairstyle

About Me

Changing My Hairstyle

A few years ago, a friend of mine told me that my hair was a little dated. I was kind of offended at first, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that she was right. I needed a change, but I wasn't sure what I wanted. I started doing a little research, and I was able to find an incredible salon near my house that offered what I was looking for. I made an appointment, and the hairstylist walked me through a litany of styles, colors, and accessories. This blog is designed to help people to learn more about what a spa or salon can do for you, so that you can change your look too.

How Salon Services And Cliental Are Changing From Traditional Expectations

The local hair salon was traditionally a spot for women to go and get their hair and nails done, while most men used the local barber for hair cuts. However, the salon industry is changing, and more often, the clients are mixed between males and females using the same hair salon services in many areas.

Service Provider Differences

When you go into a hair salon, you can get a hair cut and style, hair coloring or dye, and many other services. The people working in the salon are commonly self-employed contractors that rent the station in the salon and try and attract repeat clients to ensure a decent income from their work.

As a result, these providers' education has expanded from women's hairstyles to include men, children, and alternative cuts and styles that have become popular. It is common for clients to find someone they are comfortable with and request that stylist each time they go to the salon, and the stylist often gets to know their repeat clients well enough to know what they like and how to cut or style their hair to make them happy.

There are still barbers specializing in men's haircuts, but many of them are shifting to unisex cuts and styles. The change in services and how they are provided is changing the entire business model. If you are considering opening a salon, these changes could be vital to recognize to build a business that caters to everyone and offers services beyond a haircut and wash.

Additional Services

Offer services like manicures and pedicures are becoming more common in hair salons, along with special services like adding hair extensions, special braiding, and in some areas, permanent makeup applied through tattooing eyebrows, lips, and other facial features. Often these services are more common in large salons, and many times the people providing these additional services specialize in these areas and are less likely to be working with their client's hair.

The hair salon may offer a hair cut and style with one person, while another is doing a pedicure to maximize the efficiency of the services and get you in and out of the hair salon quickly. Taking the concept a step further, there are spas and retreats that you can go to and have all the services at once and be pampered while you are there.

Like the hair salon, the spa often offers services for both men and women to enjoy. Many men have found that having a professional keep their fingernails and toenails trimmed results in healthier nails and keeps their hands and feet looking good. That feels good, both physically and emotionally, and is essential in today's world.
