Changing My Hairstyle

A few years ago, a friend of mine told me that my hair was a little dated. I was kind of offended at first, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that she was right. I needed a change, but I wasn't sure what I wanted. I started doing a little research, and I was able to find an incredible salon near my house that offered what I was looking for. I made an appointment, and the hairstylist walked me through a litany of styles, colors, and accessories. This blog is designed to help people to learn more about what a spa or salon can do for you, so that you can change your look too.

6 Hair Care Mistakes To Avoid

If you desire shiny and beautiful hair that will get you noticed from across the room, you have to treat your locks with the utmost care. Handling your hair too roughly or using the wrong products can really damage it. Here are six common hair mistakes you must avoid:

Washing Your Hair Every Day

If you are used to washing your hair daily, the idea of skipping a day or two might sound a little gross. However, washing your hair too often can actually strip the oils and dry out your strands. Try to wash your hair just every other day. If your hair is starting to feel greasy, applying a little dry shampoo to the roots will make it look as good as new. Once your hair gets used to not being washed every day, it will not look as greasy.

Not Using Heat Protection

Heat styling tools, such as blow-dryers and flat-irons, can do a lot of damage to your hair, so it is important to protect your strands. Before you use one of these heat styling tools, apply a heat protecting product all over your hair. A heat protector will shield your hair from the damaging effects of heat styling tools.

Being Rough With Tangles

When your hair is badly tangled, you may be tempted to be too rough with a brush. Doing this, however, can lead to breakage. Instead, apply some detangling spray to your hair and gently untangle your hair with a comb.

Putting Conditioner All Over Your Hair

Although conditioner is very effective at keeping your hair hydrated, you should never slather it all over your head. Doing so can weigh your hair down and make it look very greasy. Only put the conditioner on the ends of your hair.

Brushing Your Hair Too Often

There is no reason to brush your hair several times a day. In fact, brushing your hair too frequently can lead to breakage. You only need to brush your hair just once to spread the oils around and make your strands shinier.

Blow-drying Soaking Wet Hair

It is never a good idea to blow-dry your hair right after you get out of the shower. Blow-drying dripping wet hair can lead to more heat damage. Let your hair air dry for at least 20 minutes before you blow-dry it.

If you avoid these common hair care mistakes, your hair will be in much better shape. To learn more about proper hair care, speak to your stylist the next time you visit the hair salon.
